Affectionately known as Caltech, The California Institute of Technology is a private university specializing in intensive natural sciences and engineering curricula. Renown for their aeronautical advances in jet propulsion, Caltech, through its subsidiary Jet Propulsion Lab, works intimately with NASA. It is fair to characterize their relationship by saying when NASA wants to go to space, the JPL figures out how to get them there.
It was not until the tenure of the astronomer George Hale that the university began to cultivate its reputation as a frontrunner in science and aeronautics. He convince other prominent scientists, among them physical chemist Arthur Amos Noyes and experimental physicist Robert Andrews Millikan (who would subsequently win the Nobel Prize for physics), to join the institution. Despite its reputation, Caltech maintains a relatively small student body, with roughly 2,000 students in both its graduate and undergraduate programs. Caltech was founded, in 1891, as a humble vocational school in Pasadena.
Caltech is arguably the most successful research institute on the west coast. It presently claims 31 Nobel laureates as alumni or faculty. No more than 25,000 students have passed through its doors, which means the ratio of Nobel laureates to alumni is so small no other university comes close. It is a remarkable testament to the quality of education prospective students have to look forward to.
The academic workload has been distributed is such a way as to ensure students are successful with their coursework. The grading system has been designed in such a manner as to allow students to know their academic standing as early in the semester as possible. This helps students put the necessary emphasis on their academic performance in subsequent exams.
Both Caltech and MIT have developed an intense rivalry over the decades. As expected, this rivalry has vented itself by way of years and years of reciprocal pranks, which seem to invariably involve the respective school mascots. To be really truthful these healing crises seem to happen at the most inopportune times, like in the middle of meeting a crucial deadline. This is because the person is under some serious stress which taxes the immune system.
To recap, the healing crisis which can feel like influenza, have coughing fits, headaches, diarrhea, skin eruptions etc. is a naturally occurring attempt on the bodys part to heal and spring clean. The alternative to resting and working with the body is to stop the process, which will only suppress the toxic material in the body.
What to do if you are in a crisis and you make the smart decision to go with the flow and support your body? Take as much rest as possible. If you must work, take a different attitude while there of emotional detachment. Meditate morning and night. This will give you the opportunity for thoughtfulness, prayer, scientific or not, and space to hear what the Universe is trying to tell you. Buy or use your juicer. Drink at least a quart of fresh juice a day. Get a book that gives you juice recommendations. Eat only food that has a natural earth color; in other words, no fast food, nothing white, no dairy and no meat, no breads.
The above are easy and inexpensive alternatives to staying sick or suppression through medication. If youre a bit more ambitious you can get colonics, delve into traditional uses of herbal combinations, see a naturopath, get body work and join an on-line or local community support group.
Healing crises last as long as they need to and then you get a reprieve. Like everything in life, they are cyclical. If you are recovering from cancer or other life threatening illness, plan on healing and cleansing naturally several times a year, stay on your food regime and find a nutritional and naturopathic accountability coach. You will need to do this for support.
If you are under a doctors care for any life threatening illness you should ask for assistance in determining difference between normal body healing and an acute but life threatening attack. It is also notable that the body will never recover from a chronic disease without the healing crisis.

Catching frogs from camps own beaver pond is a huge camp sport at Swift Nature Camp. it is a challenge too. The big Bull Frogs put up a big battle to free them selves. We even have a favorite bull from the biggest meanest frog of them all JIMBO. Yes he is our mascot and is pictured on this page. Catching frogs is one of favorite things to do at this children’s summer camp. One of the best hunting spots is the lamp poles at night. You see the frogs come up from the pond at night looking for food and all the bugs hanging around the light will do just fine. One might wonder are you eating all these favorite catches. Nope they gan spend on night up at the Nature Center Zoo where they hang with the other animals anc catches then its back to where they were caught at. Next summer, join us for some serious frog catching.
Horses! Enough said. Today’s children often have their first interactions with a horse at summer camp. For most of us living the urban dream it is hard to have enough time in a day or space to own a horse. Yet at camp, children have the opportunity to get back to our American roots and have a relationship with a horse. Yes, a relationship! Horses have personalities, even more so than your family dog. Because they can do so much more, carry you through the woods on trails to places campers have never seen before. Our goal at Swift Nature Camp is to help children build this relationship while understanding basic horse care while learning how to ride.
We at Swift Nature Camp believe that your child’s safety is the most important part of camp. That is why we have a strict Lifejacket rule. Everyone must wear a PDF when in a boat. No exceptions, staff and campers alike. THis is true if on a river canoe trip or on on our own camp lake. Water is so much fun and kids love it but it is dangerous and we must be prepared. We even have a special “titanic test” to ensure that our lifejacket fits nice and snug in case of an emergency. Campers learn this the first day of camp.
