Learn Japanese By Talking About Your Hobbies

November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Once you get to know Japanese people better, you might be interested to talk about your hobbies. ‘Hobby’ in Japanese is ‘Shumi’. If you have at least one hobby that you are not afraid to talk about, it is very good and with the Japanese vocabulary that you have at your disposal, you can discuss a lot about it.

Here is a list of popular Japanese hobbies, that would be useful to learn and make part of your vocabulary. Dokusho = Reading, Engei = Gardening, Ikebana = Traditional flower arranging, Ryori = Cooking, Haikingu = Hiking, Supotsu = Sports, Rakugaki = Drawing, Undou = Exercise, Eiga = Movies and Onagaku = Music.

This isn’t all however. In fact, when Japanese think of hobbies, they would also consider eating and sleeping as hobbies. Why? Well, it all relates to the busy life that a typical Japanese man or woman leads. They are usually working hard at the office (the man) or busy with household duties (women). So, when it comes time to relax and enjoy oneself, eating, drinking, and sleeping fall into those categories (usually at night or on the weekend) because they believed that these can be enjoyed while there is some “time to kill” before starting it all over again the next day, Monday morning, or after a vacation or holiday.

It’s also useful to know that when Japanese people really enjoy a hobby, they will often become almost obessed with it and devote all of their free time to it. This is especially true with some of the traditional arts and hobbies of Japan such as karate, taiko, flower arranging, tanka and haiku poetry, playing the game of go, and traditional ink painting which is what older people often do.

As for younger people, they enjoy going out to the club, sitting and drinking with friends, or going to the computer or manga room. For housewives, their hobbies would consist of mostly of shopping, cooking, going to a coffee shop, and some of the traditional arts. For men, especially businessmen, their hobbies would consist mostly of playing golf, drinking with their coworkers, hiking in the mountains, or going to a baseball game.

Here are some expressions that you can use to say that you can do something related to your hobby such as: Watashi wa karate ga dekimasu = I can do karate You can also say: Watashi no shumi wa __________ desu. = My hobby is/are _____________. Watshi wa __________ ga suki desu. = I like _________________. Watashi wa ___________ ni kyoumi ga arimasu. = I am interested in __________________.

Possibilities that can contribute to CP are infections to newborns, low birth weight, jaundice, seizures, just to name a few. On the other hand there are a small percentage of children born with CP that is caused by medical malpractice that could have been prevented such as complications during delivery or lack of oxygen.

Medical professionals are to respond to any complications promptly and they should take the proper precautions to reduce risks to the child and mother. This is not always possible and medical professionals can and do fail in this commitment and the results can be devastating. They need to be held responsible for the damages that are suffered.

Picking an Overnight Summer Camp

November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Be sure to take your time picking a Overnight Summer Camp. But start early! Prepare for camp involves more than just packing their trunk. You want to make sure that your child has all their emotional ducks in a row for this (maybe) first time away from home.

Preparing your child is a delicate balance. While you want to talk about this exciting new experience, you also don’t want to overdo it. With too much discussion, your child may seem to loose a sense of reality, and her expectations and fantasies may never be met, leading to disappointment. It’s also possible that she could focus on her fears so much that they become overwhelming, leading her to focus only on how homesick she may be. Therefore, if there are several months before the beginning of camp, you may want to drop the subject until at least March or April. You will probably begin to receive pre-season information from the camp, and you can share these with your child in your discussions.

How to Talk About Camp: Be careful how often and which words you choose when you are talking about camp. Children have incredible radar, and they will pick up on your concerns and fears, even if you never say anything negative. You may want to visit your local library or movie rental store to pick up books or movies about camp. While many of the storylines are exaggerated, they can prompt discussion on how to handle issues that may arise at camp. Watch or read them together.

Your child should believe that camp is a fun experience and that is why you have chosen it, so be careful what you might say. Never use camp as a threat or in anger. Do not seem like you’re counting the days until your child leaves for camp, even in fun. These words can linger longer than you think, and it will confuse your child about what camp is supposed to be.

Some Dos * Meet the camp director before camp begins.

* Only talk in a positive way, they need to know you trust camp to be a safe, exciting place.

* continue to have sleepovers with family and friends.

* Do continue to have short separations, such as sleepovers with family and friends for good practice.

* Do allow your child to verbalize her concerns, even if they sound silly. You may learn about worries that you can easily resolve.

* Talk to a former camper about summer camp. They can tell you what camp is really like from a kids point of view.

Some Don’ts: * Don’t introduce anything else new in your child’s life. Try to keep everything as normal as possible, especially in the time close to the opening day.

*Family vacation just prior to camp are not a great idea. Be home for a few days prior to camp. This provide the comfort of a normal routine.

* Don’t let your child suspect you have concerns about his adjustment.

These are just a few ideas that can help you as you send your child to Summer Camp for the first time. To learn more be sure to visit Summer Camp Advice

About the author: Jeff Lorenz is the director of Swift Nature Camp a non-competitive, Wisconsin Summer Camp that offers a traditional summer camp for Boy and Girls ages 6-15. Campers enjoy camp activities as they learn at this Science Summer Camp.

Your Back To School Supplies

November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Buying back to school supplies can be trickier than it sounds. Every August it’s the same decision. Do you buy school supplies before the year starts, so your kids can show up on the first day prepared? Or do you wait until the teacher provides the list of necessary supplies?

Waiting for the teacher’s list does have its advantages. It prevents you from spending money on back to school supplies that will never be used. It ensures that you will buy the supplies that your child really needs. On the other hand, buying back to school supplies before the school year begins has its advantages as well. For one thing, your child will be prepared to work on the very first day, which is always nice. For another, you won’t be scrambling to buy school supplies at the last minute, along with countless other parents crowding the office supplies store with their own lists. Most of all, the best sales on back to school supplies are often long before back to school time. If you shop in early August, you can find some great deals on school supplies of all kinds.

So if you really want to save money, you probably shouldn’t wait for the teacher’s list of back to school supplies. Go ahead and use your judgment, and buy while the buying is good. In reality, it’s not that hard to know what sorts of supplies your children will need for school. Obviously they will need pencils, and lots of them. Pencils have a habit of getting destroyed or lost. So buy in bulk. And don’t forget a hand-held sharpener or two. Even if the classroom has an electric sharpener, it’s a tremendous convenience to be able to sharpen at your desk. As long as your child has a sharp pencil at the ready, he or she will be fine. Other back to school supplies are really just extras.

Still, your child will want those extras. So buy some spiral or marble notebooks. You will definitely need some two-pocket folders - they are always useful. When purchasing back to school supplies, college-ruled loose leaf paper is an absolute must. If your child is in fifth grade or above, make sure to get some ballpoint pens as well.

The rest of those supplies you may be considering, or that your child may be asking for, are extra. Glue, file cards, highlighters, markers, crayons, glitter gel pens, silly erasers and locker magnets are not necessary back to school supplies. But they are fun to have around. And what’s the worst that could happen? If you buy back to school supplies that your child doesn’t use this year, then you simply won’t have to buy them again next year.

I like blogging about school supplies and christian books on my mp3 audio books free website daily.

Fashion and Design Colleges: Finding the Best

November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

There are many schools that make broad claims to help those who have very specific career ambitions. Everything from general business studies to culinary arts, there’s likely a very targeted school geared directly towards your goals for future employment if you look hard enough. One of the more popular types of institute are fashion and design colleges. The best part is that you can get a serious job in fashion design via job placement and apprenticeship programs from these schools.

You can literally spend hours going through “the best” of what fashion and design colleges there are. The reality is that a lot of them merely claim to be the best fashion colleges and have no real evidence to support the claim. But by way of much research I believe that I have assembled a list of three of the strongest and most efficient fashion and design colleges in the nation.

These are all very well regarded, so none takes priority over any other.

We can comfortably start with LIM College. Located in the heart of Manhattan in New York City, LIM has been creating leaders in the fashion world for years and years. Their primary draw lies with their undergraduate programs, for instance fashion merchandising, marketing, management, and visual merchandising. They also offer graduate MBA programs for those seeking a serious stake in the fashion industry.

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is also very worth mentioning. For example, they have various campuses all over California, which permit more diversity with regard to who can get in. The campuses are located in San Franciso, San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. They too consider themselves as the height of design training, and this is evident by the fact that the hit show Project Runway is filmed on an FIDM campus. In addition, the school provides serious internship and apprenticeship potential for industrious students who meet the criteria.

The final school to be discussed won the Best Fashion Design & Apparel Design Schools & Programs of 2008 award. The Academy of Art University was established in San Francisco eighty years ago, and has not slowed down ever since. The beauty of this institution is that they give at least most of the required credits by way of online courses. The following companies are said to select amongst AAU graduates: Louis Vuitton, DKNY, BCBG, Kenneth Cole and a great deal more.

These schools should be a place for you to start your search. They’re all serious contenders in getting you a job. The choice hinges on where you want to go, or where you currently live.

Is being a fashion designer a dream of yours? If so, make sure you give a lot of thought as to where you plan on studying. Choosing from among the many fashion colleges can be difficult, so make sure you investigate them carefully.

Figuring Out the Best Weight Lifting Routine

November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

I’ve been working out very regularly since college now, and it’s been several years since I haven’t been going nearly every day of the week. Working out has had a really positive impact on my life, and it’s helped me in areas I never would have expected. I don’t need as much sleep, I eat healthier, and I’m generally in a better mood because of it.

I like to be as steady as I can with my workouts. It keeps things easy and routine, and I end up not neglecting any part of my body this way. Still, I’ve never really known whether to go with one or two muscles per workout.

For a long time, I would work out two muscles at once, and then I decided to mix things up by focusing on one muscle per day.

I’d do chest with triceps, back with biceps, and shoulders with legs. I had a solid three day rotation, meaning that I was hitting up most of my muscle groups twice per week.

The advantages of this are obvious. You’ll end up working your muscles more, and it’ll take less workouts per week to achieve the same workload for each muscle.

It wasn’t all great though. I didn’t really enjoy spending so much time in the gym, and I also wondered about the risk of exhausting my muscles by working them so often.

For the last two years, I’ve been doing one muscle per day. My workouts are a lot shorter and I take some of the saved time to run on a treadmill.

How are my results though? I have to say that my results are just as good, as long as I’m consistent. The key to this all is to make sure that you go at least 4-5 days per week. Otherwise, you won’t be giving each muscle group the attention it needs.

Causes Of Land Pollution And Recycling Facts

November 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

Current info about the causes of land pollution is not always the easiest thing to locate. Fortunately, this report includes the latest facts about solar energy available.

Solar energy is energy from the sun. When the sun is shining solar energy is being produced as it sends the heat radiating to the earth. Solar energy is as plentiful as daylight, as limitless as organic life itself, a fuel that comes free of charge and replenishes itself every time the earth rotates on its axis. Almost all energy, after all, is ultimately stored solar power: Oil, gas, and coal were born of the ancient sunlight that fed prehistoric animals and plants, the wind is set howling by the sun’s unequal heating of the atmosphere, and even a campfire draws its warmth from solar power trapped long ago through photosynthesis.

Wind and water have been used to power mills for centuries. Wind power is a totally renewable energy source with no greenhouse gas emissions, but due to its unpredictability, has problems integrating with national grids. Combined together, wind and hydrogen can cancel out their inherent defects and be an effective tool in the battle against carbon dioxide and global warming. Winds are rated in seven classes; higher class numbers indicate stronger winds.

See how much you can learn about the causes of land pollution when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

Although HFCVs are much less efficient than BEVs, wind-HFCVs are still very clean and were ranked second among all combinations. Wind turbine designs have undergone dramatic changes since the first windmill structure invented in’88 by Charles F. Wind energy and tidal energy also feature among the many and varied articles. These discuss the principles behind these alternative energy sources, the need to move away from fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar energy research is expanding rapidly, with many new ideas being explored - some using exotic nano-materials combined with ingenious engineering approaches. PVs look set to contribute significantly to future power generation. Solar energy use accounted for 129 kilo tons of oil equivalent (ktoe) in 2000 and is projected to be 431 ktoe and 828 ktoe in 2010 and 2020, respectively.

Solar energy installations are often sited in deserts where water is scarce. This isn’t to say that traditional forms of energy production don’t have their own problems; thermoelectric power plants are responsible for 41% of all water withdrawals in the country and often do profound damage to local waterways.

If you’ve picked some pointers about the causes of land pollution that you can put into action, then by all means, do so. You won’t really be able to gain any benefits from your new knowledge if you don’t use it.
