Make Learning English Fun For A Non-English Speaker
March 11, 2010 | Leave a Comment
There are lots of things to do in making learning English fun for a non-English speaker. Teachers often find new ways to help their classes be more interesting, and sometimes they do what their students want to do. Moreover, there are some things aside from traditional books that you can remember to be able to learn English in a more interesting and fun way.
One of the first things that you can do is not to mind the grammar. A good way to study a new language is to know that words are the most important; grammar only comes in second. You can always communicate with the right words - even with bad grammar and construction. But if you have the perfect grammar but you don’t know the words, you’d be left misunderstood.
Understanding that English words are the most important can make learners value the language more, and help them to speak. Thinking and speaking in English are also two good ways to enable them not to mind grammar too much. Many learners fail to learn the language because they refuse to speak, thinking that they may commit mistakes. Not minding about your mistakes, and simply speaking is definitely a good way.
Another way for students in making learning English fun for a non-English speaker is to study with music. Kids, teenagers and adults all like music. It virtually removes the traditional way of teaching, and implies a lighter atmosphere when learning. English lyrics can sharpen their listening skills, and then you can give out some worksheets to test their comprehension. With advanced groups, you can even make these as topics for speaking exercises.
English music lyrics can provide these learners new words and a way to remember them. Remembering a language through music usually works better for most students because they connect words with melodies, making them easy to recall. Kids and teenagers may like to sing along, as well, and do simple exercises such as filling in the missing lyrics in their activity sheets.
There are also some learners who prefer to study both with visuals and with audio, thus the use of various videos when learning English. Others may also choose different sitcoms, movies, cartoons and even movie trailers. These things make word association and word recall easy, especially for those who tend to remember things better through visuals. Preparing worksheets and discussions after watching the movie can be helpful, as well as building new vocabulary.
And of course, who can forget about various games? A simple charades game can make students recall their vocabularies even better. There are also various games which can target both vocabulary and grammar. Make some song titles, then cut them each into words. Give them to groups of three, and ask them to make their own song titles with sense. They would definitely recall the words and their meanings better. Keep a dictionary in hand, just in case.
Learning English doesn’t have to be by the book all the time. By combining different ways, making learning English fun for a non-English speaker can be quite easy and entertaining.

The Facts About Psychiatry Jobs, How Long It Takes To Be Educated And The Dedication Required
March 9, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Choosing to go into the field of mental health requires someone that is committed, dedicated and most of all has an open mind. When thinking of psychiatry jobs many confuse the field of psychology with a psychiatrist. Though both specialize in the human mind there are differences in the two fields.
Becoming a doctor is possible in both fields, the difference as a psychiatrist they are a medical doctor and a psychologist could have a doctorate degree. The doctorate degree could be either a PhD or a PsyD; however, they are not licensed to practice medicine. Both will have their specializations relating to psychology and both have a specific type of psychology they prefer to utilize in their practice.
When someone specializes in children they are known as a child psychologist or psychiatrist. Their primary clients are children and families of the children they see. Should someone consider this extremely popular field it is important to take into consideration that often times the families may be difficult to deal with. If there is a case with a child being seen due to abuse for example, the clinician needs to be very open minded to the family situation. They cannot be bias or blaming; this is often difficult for many in the field of treating children.
To have a specialization in sports psychology means the clients are somehow involved in sports, they could be players or coaches. Many of the clients seen in this field are seeking assistance with many different areas relating to their involvement with a sport. For example, it could a client that is having difficulties controlling a temper while playing or they could be having difficulties handling peer pressure. There are many different situations for the client to seek professional help.
The forensic field is not always silence of lambs type clients. It does normally involve working with someone in a criminal situation. The individual could be claiming an insanity plea and your job would be to determine if they were insane at the time of the crime or you could be called as a professional witness specializing in a particular field of crime. It will always be of a different nature. Criminal psychology is more often trying to determine the behavior aspect and reason for the criminal behavior.
To be a psychiatrist requires a lot of education. Starting with a bachelors degree in science, another four years of medical school, an internship followed by residency. After all of the years of school is a state board examination which they must pass in order to be licensed. They are licensed to practice medicine.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor therefore they can prescribe medications, whereas a psychologist cannot. They do not simply prescribe a pill and send their patients on their way; they do have an interest in treating their patients. The patients they see range from children to geriatric. Some opt to work as a general practitioner, meaning they can treat patients of all ages. Those who opt for specializing in a particular group of patients have had specialized training in that particular field.
To get psychiatry jobs is not a simple process. It takes many years of dedication from these men and women. They have gone through medical school along side of a family physician; they simply chose to specialize in the minds, brains and mental health of their patients as opposed to specializing in bones, surgery or family practice.

Great Eighties Hollywood Hits
March 5, 2010 | Leave a Comment
A lot of people make derisory comments about the 1980’s and knock the fashions, hairstyles etc But you can’t deny it was a decade that produced some great movies.
So many of these great movies haven’t been seen by those who are around the age of 23 or younger. This is a crying shame as these films deserve to be enjoyed by the younger generation too.
These movies still stand out today and their influences can be heavily seen in today’s cinema. They are still great to watch today, nearly 30 years later.
Let’s cut to the chase, these are 5 movies which I have loved since I first saw them. Give them a try yourself to see what I’m talking about.
You may know Elisabeth Shue from her recent work, but in the 1980’s she was known as the star of Adventures in Babysitting. Set on the streets of Chicago, this is a cult movie these days and has stood the test of time.
A sports movie that still has me in hysterics is the wonderful Major league. There are two sequel movies but the original is still the best.
A truly iconic movie from the 1980’s in the Breakfast Club. Starring many of the young stars of that era including Molly Ringwald, you will probably have heard of it even if you haven’t gotten around to seeing it yet. This is a movie that really deserves the title ‘classic’.
A young kid skips school and takes his girlfriend and best buddy to spend the day in the big city of Chicago. This is the simple plot of Ferris Bueller’s day off, but the great script and strong performances of a young Matthew Broderick and his co-stars really make this a movie to be watched over and over again.
Two hours of action and shoot em ups shouldn’t make great cinema, but when the leading man is Bruce Willis in THAT vest, you will see why Die Hard was, and is, one of the greatest action movies of all time. They are still producing sequels to this these days, but for me, this is still the best.

Explore the Architectural Masterpieces in the Battambang Province of Cambodia
March 4, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Cambodia holds its distinct place in the International tourism industry as it has to offer many fabulous locations and structures. Battambang is known for its beautiful buildings and temples and its tourists vary from those studying construction to those who are merely art enthusiasts. The name of the province came up because of the famous story in which King Kranhoung throws his staff which lands in the region now known as ‘Battambang’.
Ba Set Temple atop a hill in Ba Set village is a remarkable piece of architecture which reminds us of the reign of King ‘Soriyak Varman I’ spanning in time from 1002 to 1050. Ba Set’s construction completed in 1042 and you can reach it from Ta Pune commune at a 15 kilometers drive. If you happen to consult an archeologist, he will tell you that this 11th Century temple is considered as an excellent example of a high degree of French influence in its design. And to add to the overall soothing effect, you can head towards a lake roughly 10 meters deep which gives excellent refreshment to tourists.
Another structure having French style of architecture is the Wat Ek Temple which was built in the 11th Century and is a place that every tourist loves to visit. The Wat Ek Temple was completed by King Sorayak Varman I in 1027 and you can reach it from the provincial capital after a drive of 14 kilometers.
While Ba Set and Wat Ek have a largely 11th Century style of architecture, Ba Nan temple is a mixture of 11th and 12th Century design as its construction was initiated by Ut Tak Yea Tit Tya Varman II in the later stages of 11th Century and was continued by King Jayavarman VII until its completion. Ba Nan temple stands in the Ba Nan District approximately 15 kilometers away from the capital of the Battambang province. While reaching the temple, you’ll have to climb a 400 meter high cliff, Koh Tey 2 commune. Ba Set Temple, Wat Ek Temple and Ba Nan are three excellent examples of Buddhist temples in Cambodia.
Apart from the traditional temples, Cambodia also contains a great tourist attraction in the shape of three stupas located in Snung Pagoda commune on a hill about 22 kilometers away from Battambang city. When you go to have a look at these three beautiful stupas, you’ll notice that the design of gates has a touch of 12th Century architecture.
In order to see the natural side of Cambodia, the Sek Sak resort is a perfect place for tourists to visit. The entertainment resort full of all kinds of trees is located along side the River bank and covers an area of more than 500 meters. Situated with the National road in the Sam Puoy commune is yet another resort which helps you appreciate the natural beauty in the north-western province of Cambodia. If you have a liking for temples, the Phnom Sam Puoy resort is just the place to be, moreover, three amazing natural wells are also to be found there and you can even visit the neighboring mountains which have the Reach Kol Neang Rum Say Sork legend associated with them.
Cambodia is a country rich in culture and tradition which is visible in every temple, structure and tourist location. The country has to offer a lot of places to tourists, meanwhile the natural scenery and soothing countryside are two further reasons why people turn to Cambodia and in the midst of such rich culture, Battambang province is an ideal place to spend your vacations.

The Three Greatest Box Office Productions With Three Dimensional Effects
February 27, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Well it’s actually happening, what the experts have been trying to perfect for years is here, 3D has well and truly arrived and looks as if it is now here to stay. Concerts, movies and even sporting events are being produced in 3D, which adds that extra dimension of realism and enjoyment.
There are so any ways that 3D technology can be used to heighten our enjoyment of major events and also movies. An extra layer is added to the film to make us feel as if we are really there, and we feel as if we can reach out and touch it.
The recent phenomenal success of Avatar can’t have escaped anyone’s notice. Even if you haven’t seen it; you can’t have failed to see the trailers and been impressed by the technology. This is going to improve even further and we can only imagine what we will be seeing in the future.
Of all the movies that have been made in 3D, and there have been quite a few, 3 really stand out for me. You many have already seen them, if you haven’t you should really make the effort.
A fine example of how the 3D technology could be used in a completely new medium is the U2 concert. This made us all feel as if we were there in front row seats. For those of us who couldn’t get there in person, this sure was the next best thing.
The quality of the sound and visuals are second to none. Everyone I spoke to who were lucky enough to see this felt exactly the same as I did. When you consider how few tickets for events like this actually go on sale, the sheer volume of people that more of these would attract is incredible.
The best way to appreciate a 3D movie from a few years ago was to compare it with an ordinary version of the same thing; and this is where the makers of Beowulf were very clever. The versions released in 2007 were one of each, and the ordinary one was pretty ordinary.
The 3D version, however, was simply stunning. The visual effects blew you away and it was praised by cinema goers and critics alike. The movies released since have more than likely taken a lot of inspiration from Beowulf.
“And the winner of the 2010 Academy award for best picture is…….. ” Avatar, as far as I’m concerned. Don’t get me started on those who keep saying it’s a cartoon; this is a 3D technological triumph, which deserves all its plaudits and should provide James Cameron with yet another few Oscars for his mantelpiece.

Sadly, after initial success, a lot of winners disappear from the limelight rarely to be heard of again. This is one of the curses of the TV talent show. There are those, however, who have proved they’re here to stay. The likes of Kelly Clarkson are now global stars selling millions of albums.
In ordinary circumstances, finishing as runner up would be devastating, but not in this competition it isn’t. There are many who have gone to outshine the ones who were crowned the winner, so coming second is no hardship as far as the American public is concerned.
It must be a good feeling to enter a competition knowing that even if you don’t win you have a great chance of being successful. Here are just a few of the most famous runners up from the American Idol archives.
As far back as the second season, runners up made their mark. Clay Aiken shuffled onto stage looking like a rabbit caught in headlamps, he looked so out of place we felt sorry for him. Then he began to sing, and we were absolutely blown away.
Although Clay was beaten on the night by Ruben Studdard; his career since that night has proved to be much more successful than his victor. He has enjoyed phenomenal success on Broadway and is proving to be very popular and extremely bankable. With a solid fan base behind him, Clay will be around for a long time to come.
The seventh season of Idol introduced us to the adorable David Archuleta. The strength and maturity of his amazing voice belied his fresh faced and youthful looks. His career has gone from strength to strength and he thoroughly deserves the plaudits that are lavished upon him.

Exciting Places To Visit In New York
February 23, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Listing great things about Manhattan is the easiest thing in the world, there are so many of them. This vibrant, cosmopolitan city is loved by both those who live there and those who visit. A trip to New York is on everyone’s wish list.
I live in Manhattan, and as I’m sure you can imagine, I’ve greatly explored and took in as much of this amazing area as I could. The enormity of New York, however, makes it impossible to be properly a part of it. However much you try, there just isn’t enough time.
Let’s leave the negatives behind and focus on the best that Manhattan has to offer. These are just a few of my personal recommendation for you to check out next time you come to take a bite out if the big apple.
My first stop is the fabulous East Village. I visit this area regularly for the great bars and restaurants, try them out yourself.
If you want to shop for clothes, grab a drink, or choose from a great variety of food styles, the East Village is the place for you. Geared towards the younger age group of twenties and thirties, this square mile is busy, vibrant and very cosmopolitan. The Lower East side borders it at the bottom and it’s very easy to cross from one to other without realising it.
At first glance the appearance of the West village looks very similar, but you will notice that is geared towards the mature age groups. This is a very attractive area, brimming with intimate cafes and designer clothing. The abundance of trees makes this area as attractive as it is popular.
If Bohemia isn’t your style and you want to spend some time at one with nature, then head for the Upper West Side. This area is home to the world famous Central Park, a beautiful place to relax for a few hours and watch the world go by.
These areas are just a few of my favorites, and I hope I’ve whetted your appetite as to what Manhattan has to offer. I’m going to leave now because trust me; I could go on for hours!

Gaelic Language - In Years Gone By And Today
February 19, 2010 | Leave a Comment
In the Tenth and eleventh centuries Scots Gaelic had been at its most widely used as a language where a lot of people who resided in Scotland spoke the language. Nowadays there is actually only about 1.6% who are able to speak Gaelic. The majority of pro- Gaelic speakers might state that this had been the strategy of the English - in order to free the British Isles of its Gaelic language and substitute it by the English language. However there are many of causes of the decrease of Gaelic as a language.
Firstly, by about 1400 the actual variation between the Highlands and the Lowlands had been solidly recognized. A scholarly man known as John of Fordun had this to point out concerning the differences between the highlanders and the lowlanders in 1380:
“The people from the coast tend to be of domestic and civilised behavior, trusty, patient, as well as urbane, respectable in their attire, affable, and tranquil, devout in Divine worship, but constantly willing to reject a wrong at the hands of their opponents. The highlanders and also individuals from the islands, in contrast, are a savage and untamed nation, rude or obnoxious and self-sufficient, given to rapine, ease-loving, smart and also speedy to master, comely in person, yet unattractive in dress, inhospitable towards the English people as well as language, and, due to the variety of dialog, also to their own nation, and very vicious. These people are nevertheless faithful and obedient to their own king and nation, and easily made to submit to regulation, if appropriately ruled.”
So it could be argued that the main reason for the decline in the Gaelic language was due to the great divide between the differing parts of Scotland. And by the sixteenth century the divergence between the two was at an all time high due to in the main, historic reasons and a different language being spoken. James VI had two main principles for his Highland policy - one being a way to make an income and the other was for it to be used for plantation. He considered that the highlanders and particularly the islanders were not paying their fair taxation and he wanted to change this.
In 1597 he set up three burghs within the Highlands with the intention of permitting a number of the lowlanders to rule. With the strengthening Campbell clan as well as the detest for the lowlanders of the Highlanders and the Islanders, a lot more disruption was to follow. It was costing the King greater expense than he cared to pay.
