New Grad Nurse Jobs Do Exist

September 6, 2010 | Leave a Comment

For recent graduates from nursing programs looking for new grad nurse jobs I can just hear it now, “There are no jobs out there for us!” “I thought nursing was supposed to be such a sure thing for job-security, but I can’t get a job anywhere!” “All the positions are for experienced nurses only…how am I supposed to get any experience if no one will hire me?” “Nursing shortage? What nursing shortage? If there’s such a shortage, why aren’t there any jobs?”

This is a typical lament of the newly-graduated nurse looking for new grad nurse jobs, looking for his or her very first job out of school, at least in some parts of the country, and in some situations. I believe that some encouragement is needed, as well as some “sage advice.”

New Grad Nurse Jobs

Lets face it, the job market is tight currently. And this also goes for new grad nurse jobs as well. This situation isn’t completely new, but it can be frustrating. Nursing has seen this kind of situation before. There were few new grad nurse jobs when I began my nursing career 20 years ago. Health professionals were being laid off left and right it seemed.

To all nurses both seasoned and new grads, there IS a nurse shortage, we are all just caught up in a strange situation currently. But trust me, there is a shortage, and it will only get worse.

New Grad Nurse Jobs

Hospitals are being forced to make tough decisions, just like every other type of business industry, when it comes to their budgets. Every area of healthcare is being hit, not just nursing. Hospitals are being forced to look at all entry level job position, not just new grad nurse jobs. The reason is it’s expensive to train new workers, in any occupation.

The reality is no matter how great you were in school, or how many extra hours put it, or how long you worked in a hospital as a tech before you went to nursing school, it still takes a good year or so to turn a new grad into a fully independent nurse. This is simply how it is.

New Grad Nurse Jobs

They will spend tens of thousands of dollars on you, above and beyond the salary they pay you, just to get you to the place where you actually “earn” that salary. Don’t be offended…the hospital typically knows that you are a great investment! These just aren’t typical times right now, especially for new grad nurse jobs.

Most nursing skills are learned and developed after you leave nursing school and enter the real work force. School teaches you the science of theory of nursing. It’s only after graduation where you will get to develop those skills you only touched on in school.

Your clinical rotations were not the real world. Nursing requires judgment skills; judgment skills are the result of experience backed by the theory and science you learned in school. It just takes time.

Cash Gifting - Too Good To Be True

September 6, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Perhaps in your search for how to make money, you have come across a scheme known as cash gifting. There are thousands of websites all over the Internet just waiting to convince you that such a scheme is a great way to make tens of thousands of tax free dollars in very little time. These websites try convince you that they are legitimate by stating that United States IRS Tax Code, Title 26, Sections 2501-2504 and 2511 makes such schemes legal. The pertinent section of the Code states:

An individual may give as a “cash gift” up to $12,000 USD total, to as many individuals as that individual desires within a calendar year. While these gifts are non-taxable, and need not be reported to the IRS, there are conditions. In order to be deemed non-taxable, the cash gift must be given without the expectation of receiving anything in return.”

Just think for a moment. If you were to send cash to a stranger, would you not expect something in return? You would at least expect to make your money back. No matter what anyone says, there is not one single person involved in a cash gifting program whose intent was to simply give a stranger a gift out of the kindness of their heart. It is clear that the IRS Tax Code, Title 26, Sections 2501-2504 and 2511 were not intended to exempt transfers made via cash programs from taxation. Therefore, anyone who is involved in a cash gifting program, and attempts to avoid taxation under the guise of the aforementioned Tax Code, will most likely be subjecting themselves to tax evasion charges. Furthermore, these sections of the IRS Tax Code merely determine whether a specific form of income is taxable or non-taxable, not the legality of a business or activity structure.

1) The Structure of Cash Gifting

Cash gifting programs are generally formed for the purpose of recruiting other members who only gain membership after providing their cash gift, administrative fees, and paperwork to individuals already within the program. Most of these programs, if not all of them, offer absolutely no product, or service, and attempt to distinguish themselves from the illegal pyramid scheme with structural creativity.

2) The Classic Cash Pyramid (Illegal)

The illegal pyramid is a form of cash gifting which has been around for ages. These pyramids have become such a problem that countries around the world, including Canada and the U.S., have deemed them as illegal. The reason why they are referred to as pyramid schemes, is because of their limitless geometry, and the fact that it is impossible to sustain them. These schemes are based on a premise which is known to be doomed for failure, due to the fact that there are not enough people living on the planet earth to sustain it. Similar to the above, this method of cash gifting involves the transfer of cash after recruitment, and does not offer anything of value, such as a service or a product.

3) Internet Age 1-UP Cash Gifting

This is most likely what you have seen polluting the Internet. To differentiate itself from illegal pyramids, which are illegal due to their infinite nature, and lack of sustainability, a 1-Up cash gifting was created. With such a structure, there is arguably not infinite chain. Instead, a beginning and end is unnaturally created. The line which this beginning and end form is referred to as a receiving line. Here is how it works. Subject A, who is already a member of the scheme, recruits Subject B, who is not yet a member. Subject A somehow convinces Subject B to overnight cash to them and become a member of the scheme. Thereafter, Subject B is able to convince Subject C to become a member of the scheme. Although Subject B recruited Subject C, Subject B is required to pass up their first “gift” to Subject A. This is where the name, 1-Up comes from. Once the 1-Up has taken place, the receiving line between Subject C and Subject A no longer exists. Thereafter, Subject B will receive “gifts” from future individuals who they recruit into this scheme. *For a more complete explanation, please go directly to the website listed at the bottom of this page.

At this time, there exist no laws determining the legality or criminality of these 1-Up programs. I feel that this is in large part due to the fact that such schemes are still relatively young. Nonetheless, it look way too much like the pyramid schemes which we know are illegal, and people have been convicted of partaking in.

While the final decision is up to you, we recommend that you proceed with caution for a couple of reasons. The first reason is due to the fact that internet cash gifting is in such a gray area right now, you do not want to end up being the first defendant in State v. Your Name. Furthermore, if you decide to take your chances with cash gifting, other people will be very apprehensive not only to send untraceable cash to an absolute stranger (you), but will also have concerns of ending up being the named defendant in State v. Their Name. Hence, we conclude that if you are searching for how to make money, that you avoid cash gifting.

Avoid the Cash Gifting scam. To find out more regarding Cash Gifting and why you need to stay away, visit analogiclabs.com.

Real Challenges For Pharmacy Tech With Certification For Their Own Work Growth

September 5, 2010 | Leave a Comment

We certainly can’t blame some pharmacy technicians if they begin to doubt their worth, including their pharmacy technician certification, in the grand scheme of pharmaceutical things. These doubts about themselves may stem from circumstances like pharmacy technicians who couldn’t get any technician jobs even though some experts claim that the need for pharmacy technicians are growing every year. They also doubt if they’re indeed still needed, if they will also lose their jobs because of the economic recession. They may think that even though they have pharmacy technician certification, no company is hiring them. Of course, there are pharmacists who don’t value the technicians that are working for them.

Really, is a pharmacy technician certification that important to pharmacists and other companies employing pharmacy technician. Based on a recent survey sponsored by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, pharmacists see many advantages in hiring those with pharmacy technician certification, like “reducing medication errors, ensuring patient safety, and increasing positive health outcomes” The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board sponsored a survey about this and the result says that for pharmacists, a pharmacy technician certification is an “important component in reducing medication errors, ensuring patient safety, and increasing positive health outcomes”. Over 80% of those pharmacists surveyed confirmed what was believed by many for years, that certified pharmacy technicians make positive impact on patient care. The survey also showed that when pharmacists were able to rely on well-trained and certified pharmacy technicians, pharmacists have more time on focusing on patient care and safety.

Last March 2010, during the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Annual Meeting, the survey results were first unveiled. Shane Desselle and Michael Schmitt of the University of Oklahoma, College of Pharmacy, wherein they asked the importance of pharmacy technician certification to a random sample of over 3,250 pharmacists working in various setting all across the United States. Thanks to this survey, there is now a more concrete evidence on the fact that pharmacy technician certification is important for pharmacy technicians and for the pharmacists that are employing them. This is the reason why many pharmacists prefer hiring pharmacy technicians that are certified by the PTCB.

Another unfortunate reason why many pharmacists view pharmacy technician certification as very important is because of malpractice lawsuits. Litigations are rampant in the United States nowadays, as lawsuits are filed everyday, wherein before, disputes are settled through discussions and medications. The healthcare industry is especially vulnerable to this “lawsuits mania” because of the many malpractice lawsuits being filed whenever something wrong happened during the course of the healthcare assistance process, may they be unfounded accusations or not. As protection against potential lawsuits that may be filed in the future, pharmacists and other healthcare providers prefer to hire employees that are formally trained and certified by highly regarded certifying organizations, because a certification means their employees are competent in their jobs.

It can be said that today’s pharmacists have more responsibilities than pharmacists working a few decades ago, because today, they’re more involved in patient care. Pharmacists are also relying more on pharmacy technicians in serving patients everyday, because the number of patients are constantly increasing each year due to a number of factors. In view of the fact that a pharmacist’s task has become more complex, the same situation happens to pharmacy technicians as well. For this reason, an applicant with pharmacy technician certification will almost always be hired by a pharmacist. Higher salaries and better opportunities for career advancements are awaiting those individuals who will spend time, money, and effort to obtain their certification.

Getting A Job As A College Grad

September 4, 2010 | Leave a Comment

In these hectic economic times, you might be making the mistake of trying to match the rest of your colleagues too often, which will not make you stand out and make you compete with too many people.

However, you will have far less competition for the jobs you want if you look for ones that are not advertised. You can find a plethora of jobs that are out there, but just are not openly advertised and placed with employment agencies. These kinds of jobs are filled through personal recommendations and inside hires, for the most part.

First are job openings known only by potential employers. However, be sure to do your research first. While doing so, make sure you know the type of work you wish to do, something you are not only suited for, but also passionate about. By conducting your research at places like the library, you will be able to identify a list of companies you may be interested in from major employer directories, such as Dunn And Bradstreet’s Million Dollar Directory or Standard and Poor’s Register Of Corporations. You may also wish to consult the Dictionary Of Occupational Titles (DOT), as well as the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) in identifying the jobs you wish to obtain, the skills and experience you’ll need, and even the salary ranges for these jobs. For further research, you should also conduct informational interviews with people in your desired field of interest. Once your research is complete, you should contact people you know, as well as people they may know, to find possible referrals to potential employees working in the company you wish to work for.

1. First, you can find job openings that are set by the employer. To begin with, you have to pick a field that you want to get into, as well as have the necessary expertise and passion for. After that, do some research by hitting the nearest library and looking for 25 or more companies that fit that description, using employer directories such as the Million Dollar Directory from Dun and Bradstreet, or the Register of Corporations from Standard and Poor. You can also get help from the DOT (Dictionary of Occupational Titles) and OOH (Occupational Outlook Handbook) in order to find the jobs that you would like, and what you have to have to qualify for them. You can even get an idea of how much they pay from the OOH.

The second type of unadvertised jobs are those specially created for the right person, even when no job opening currently exists. With this kind of opportunity you will have no competition and also be able to negotiate your income. With the research and informational interviews you have completed earlier, you will be able to not only determine if companies are need of an employee with your skills, but you will also be able to develop a proposal for employment. Your proposal should include a statement about the position needed and how you would be able to fill this need. To make yourself more interesting to the company of interest, be sure your proposal demonstrates how your contribution will be worth much more than the cost to the company. The idea of forming a proposal of a created position works best with smaller companies, but has been known to be successful with large companies as well.

Once you are able to accomplish either of these things, you will be sure to get a fantastic job doing what you love doing.

How Significant It Is To Do Volunteer Work

September 4, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Today most of our youth don’t believe volunteering is very important. They also believe that volunteering is for adults, people who don’t have anything better to do and people who love doing it. Today’s youth, not all but most, have no sense of doing for others.

When you give your time to help others, it instills humbleness within your life. Volunteer work is such an important part of life because it makes us to be better people.

Many students and young people will not jump to the opportunity to work for free. The free part of volunteering may not be what grabs their attention, but maybe if they know their peers will look up to them for their good hard work, that will be more of an incentive.

If the youth who happens to volunteer is part of a class, you can give them points to reward to them for all the volunteer work they do during a certain period of time.

This way, they would be more open to volunteering and helping others during their spare time. The more hours they put in, the more points or merits they receive. You can even give out big awards at the end of the school term or year.

In addition to the awards, you could split the class up into groups and teams. Rotating jobs amongst themselves will be a good way to allow everyone to have a different experience.

Constantly encourage the students and congratulate them on the work they are doing, so that they will want to continue what they are doing for you. If this is done in front of other students who are not a part of the program, so that this can be encouragement for them as well.

If students who are volunteering gets a better grade in class than the students who don’t, this may also be great motivation for other students.

A little encouragement and motivation can go a very long way with students and can be all the incentive they need. Seeing this, other students will want to be involved as well.

There Are Three Options For Public Health Nursing

September 4, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Public health nurses provide nursing services to communities of people rather than individual patients. Public health nursing services include assessing communities and the environment for health problems and providing education about healthy lifestyles and the prevention of illness. Qualified nurses can become certified in the area of public health.

American Nurses Credentialing Center

The ANCC offers certification for many specialties in nursing, and for the qualified nurse they also offer certification in public health nursing. In order to receive certification in public health nursing you have to pass a certification exam, and then renew every 5 years.

This computer based exam costs between $270 - $390 as of August 2010. If you are a member of certain nursing organizations such as the American Nurses Association (ANA) or the American Public Health Association you can receive discounts towards the certification test for public health nursing.

There are three options the ANCC offers for public health nursing.

Option A

As a registered nurse with a graduate degree in public health, you can apply to get the Advanced Public Health Nurse - Board Certified, or (APHN-BC) certification. As a clinical nurse specialist you have the option to receive your Public/Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist - Board Certified, or (PHCNS-BC) certification.

Option B

If you have either a bachelor’s or master’s degree for public health nursing you have the option to certify in the APHN-BC. Many universities now offer public health as a master’s degree.

Option C

Registered nurses with graduate degrees in nursing or a related field can apply for the APHN-BC credential provided they have completed at least 2,000 hours of clinical experience in the field of public health nursing. If nurses hold a graduate degree in something other than nursing, they must hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Need for Certification

Public health nursing certification is voluntary, not mandatory. Certified nurses may find it easier to find jobs in public health than those without certification, however, and may earn higher salaries. Certification demonstrates that nurses have certain levels of education and that they have mastered specific knowledge in the field of public health.

New Grad Nurse Jobs: Take A Breath, They DO Exist!

I can hear it now, individuals looking for new grad nurse jobs are saying “There aren’t any new grad nurse jobs!”, “A sure thing for job security? In some situations these are common complaints heard from people searching for new grad nurse jobs right out of school. I believe that some encouragement is needed, as well as some “sage advice.”

New Grad Nurse Jobs

The job market, in some places, is very tight. While it is disheartening, we need to realize that this isn’t completely new. Nursing, as a profession, has been here before, to a degree. When I first began my career there seemed to be few new grad nurse jobs, nurses were being laid off, allied professions were being cut…this was over 2 decades ago now.

To all nurses both seasoned and new grads, there IS a nurse shortage, we are all just caught up in a strange situation currently. Trust me…there is a nursing shortage! And it is going to get worse.

New Grad Nurse Jobs

The problem seems to be that, like every other business around, hospitals are having to make the same gut-wrenching budget cuts as everyone else. Every area of healthcare is being hit, not just nursing. Hospitals are being forced to look at all entry level job position, not just new grad nurse jobs. Hospitals, whether they’re short on nurses or not at the moment, are dealing with a cash-crisis and are taking a close look at new grad nurse jobs.

The reality is no matter how great you were in school, or how many extra hours put it, or how how long you worked in a hospital as a tech before you went to nursing school, it still takes a good year or so to turn a new grad into a fully independent nurse. This is simply how it is.

They will spend tens of thousands of dollars on you, above and beyond the salary they pay you, just to get you to the place where you actually “earn” that salary. Don’t get offended by this, your hospital knows that you are a very worthwhile investment. The key is to be open to accepting a job in an area where you hadn’t planned on working. These just aren’t typical times right now, especially for new grad nurse jobs.

You may not believe it right now, but most of the skills of nursing are learned after you get out of school! In school, you are learning the “science” of nursing, the “theory” of nursing. Upon graduation, you will learn how to apply that science and theory in the real world of nursing.

Your clinical rotations were not the real world. Nursing requires judgment skills; judgment skills are the result of experience backed by the theory and science you learned in school. It just takes time.

The Top Benefits Of Having A Clean And Tidy Office Or Working Environment Detailed

August 31, 2010 | Leave a Comment

Lots of individuals will attest that they can only function in an environment which is filled with clutter, where desks are untidy and just plain dirty. Well they are not doing themselves any service because researchers say, that having too much stuff surrounding us, will not make us more productive, in fact it is a mechanism for us to procrastinate rather than produce. The benefits of having a clean and tidy office or working environment can therefore be directly related to productivity at the office.

But if the idea of you doing away with all your paraphernalia on your desk is a bit daunting, then think how much better you are going to feel when you actually perform better at work and you finally get that increase or a promotion.

But, at the work place it is much better to have a desk which is always neat. Everything should have it’s demarcated space and one should stick to it. There is nothing worse than having a desk which looks like a rubbish dump. You cannot find things easily and it slows you down when you need to find something for the boss, fast.

Research has also shown that if we are already stressed, and three quarters of the population is already stressed anyway, then having a minimalistic environment with pastel colors, a few plants and soft lighting will help to bring our stress levels down while we work. Hence we do not need to work in cluttered offices.

A typical clean and tidy desk will not have empty coffee mugs, food, attache cases or handbags covering up your space. Your pen, pencils, paper clips, erasers and sellotape should be packed away in a drawer and only the pen or pencil you are writing with should be on the desk.

The goal is to get focused so that you can be a more productive individual. So make this your number one priority in life. Tidy up your desk and pack those items away which belong in a closet or drawers. Place a plant or hang a picture on your nearest wall or place a colorful rug at your feet. Your computer and phone should be placed where you can easily reach them.

If you understand the benefits of having a clean and tidy office or working environment, or if you are an employer, your staff will take their work more seriously and can de-stress while doing their job. So make it a fun activity for everyone, and create a clean up day at the office. Introduce an incentive or two for those who work hard at keeping theirs neat and tidy.

We live in north London and use window cleaners in the area to clean our windows for us. They make our windows crystal clean and we never have any complaints about them..
