A Few Of The Greatest Roles From The Incredibly Passionate Thespian, Tom Hanks
September 2, 2010 | Leave a Comment
If we want to make an argument or top 10 list of the best actors of all time, one actor that you can certainly make an argument for is Tom Hanks. Ever since his role in Splash, Tom Hanks has been one of the objectively likable guys working in Hollywood. He just seems like a good person and I feel that resonates through his roles.
There’s a lot to like about Tom Hanks, and as such I feel he deserves one of my patented top 5 lists.
The first film to mention is Forrest Gump, which I almost feel I have to get out of the way. It is such an amazing movie and if you have yet to see it, you are depriving yourself of viewing one of the best movies of the past few decades.
Tom Hanks delivered another incredible acting performance in the movie Cast Away. While this film did not receive the Academy Award nominations it strove for, it is an unbelievable showcase of talent, as Hanks is the only actor in the majority of the film.
In Philadelphia, Tom Hanks stars a homosexual defendant who must pair up with a homophobic lawyer played by Denzel Washington. This movie nabbed Hanks the Academy Award for Best Actor In A Leading Role, a very much-deserved accolade.
Another great film starring Tom Hanks which you may or may not have seen is A League Of Their Own. This film focuses on an all girls baseball league that is formed during World War II when all the men are off at war.
Another movie that I have a special affinity for is Turner and Hooch. Growing up, I had a Dogue De Bordeaux, which is the type of dog that Hooch was. Subsequently, this was a family favorite of ours.
These are just a few of the incredible films that Tom Hanks has starred in through the years. Do not limit yourself to these five, however, since most of his films are quality.

What To Consider Before Homeschooling Your Kids
September 1, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Deciding for which courses should be included in the curriculum of your child if he/she is receiving home schooling, becomes a lot more easier if it is done carefully keeping a few things in mind.
Initially, you need to decide the method of instruction that will be used for teaching the content. You can either use the help of text books, or follow instructions over the internet. Moreover, a correspondence style can be selected, or one that is a combination of all those mentioned above.
After that, you should decide whether you want your child to have a religion based education, or if you will approve one that is secular. You can decide from various styles of teaching, for example Montessori and Waldorf or unit based studies.
Your state must have a specific list of requirements about which courses are mandatory. You should be aware of those before you select courses and begin teaching those to your child
It is very important for you to be informed about the state’s requirements because some ask for annual progress reports and assessments of children who are home schooled. The courses you have thought should be acknowledged by the state.
In some states it is compulsory to give tests, which are standardized. In order to score well on those, your child should be familiar with the courses required by the state. Another concern can be the following:
Keeping in mind how old your child is, you should also inquire the prerequisites of any university they are interested to apply in, so that your child covers those units of courses on time. You can then make it a point of adding those in your curriculum.
This is an experience that can shape the life of your child, which is why so much of care and attention should be paid at every step. It should be such that it would guarantee the success and achievement level of your child in future.

Romance Films From The Last Decade Which Are Enjoyable
August 31, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Any time a guy and a girl want to see a movie together, it is most likely rare that the guy will suggest a romantic comedy. I do not mean to stereotype or make a generalization, but the studios that produce romantic comedies will be the first to admit that their target demographic with this genre of films is females. That is not to say that men cannot enjoy these films, however.
This article will discuss some of the best romantic comedies from the past 10 years.
I will have to start off with probably the best film of any on this list, and that is none other than Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Oddly enough, this film has a very serious subject matter to it, and can be considered dark comedy as well. This might be my favorite Jim Carrey movie of any.
If you are a fan of British comedian Ricky Gervais, then Ghost Town is worth checking out. If you have no idea who that is, then it is still worth seeing. This movie takes place in New York City and is a dry, yet humorous watch.
When it comes to some of the funniest romantic comedies, I have to mention Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This film is absolutely hilarious and finds the right balance of romance with comedy. Sure, the comedy is more prevalent, but its got enough of a romantic storyline as well.
Any fan of Woody Allen films should check out Vicky Christina Barcelona. Woody Allen has always been exceptional at showcasing the cities in which his movies take place, and Vicky Christina Barcelona shows the beauty of the Spanish city brilliantly. It is truly amazing the range that Javier Bardem has showed recently. In just a few months, he went from playing one of the most terrifying villains in cinematic history (Anton Sigur in the multiple Academy Award Winning film No Country For Old Men) to playing a seductive Spanish romantic in this film.
Finally, a great film to watch, either by yourself or with a significant other, is Juno. This movie is directed by Diablo Cody and stars Ellen Page in her breakout role as well as the awkwardly funny Michael Cera. This film is anything but cheesy, and every line from this movie is well written.
These are just a few of the great romantic comedies to be released over the past decade, but certainly there have to be a few more I am forgetting.

August 31, 2010 | Leave a Comment
Nobody who owns a computer desires to experience some type of computer crash or a virus. The easiest method to prevent data loss is to back up your laptop. Every bit of information that is critical to you needs to be copied and kept in a safe location, so you access it when unexpected problems occur. Copying your computer will not save it from viruses or crashing, but you will have some satisfaction knowing that, no matter what, you’ve still got all of the data you’ll need in a backup medium. It is betterfor all computer users to support some of their files, but the very best answer is usually to backup all files.
During the dawn of computers, backing up files from the computer would not be as easy as it is today. The sole available medium back then was the floppy disk. There were two sizes of floppy disks, the 5 inch and the 3 inch. The volume of data that may be stored on this sort of saving device was limited. It couldn’t hold very much information due to the limited space for saving. Forget about the old days and focus on the present. We’ve got the luxury of saving all data on a personal computer, even software, programs, and accessoriesyou wish to back up. Because of the invention of ZIP drives, DVD-Rs, CD-Rs, flash drives, and external hard disks, life became easier for computer power users. The fascinating evolution of technology, has caused media for computers to become smaller, physically, but also to get bigger in space readily available for backup.
Have you seen the thumb drives? There are specific names employed for this kind of drive, including jump drive, flash drive, and thumb drive. This sort of storage device will keep you wondering how all that information goes onto that small, and compact instrument. Flash drives are merely 2 inches in diameter and weigh under 15 grams. You can place one in your pocket without furnishing you with the discomfort of a bulky pocket. No one will ever notice that you are carrying a pc storage device due to its size. Naturally, there is also a down side to these compact cuties. Should you forget to take one from your pocket and you throw your pants inside the automatic washer, it will likely be damaged by water and will not work anymore.
FTP or file transfer protocol is yet another way of storing information. This can be a little bit complicated compared to the other process stated earlier. You could have a technical know-how in creating one. Consult an IT person if you are curious how FTP works. Or just do your research online to give you a notion about file transfer protocols.
You should never forget that copying your computer ought to be done regularly. It is like brushing our teeth. If you’re not that busy, backup your computer now. You don’t wish to feel sorry for yourself once you discover that everything you’ve stored in your computer for years will likely be gone in only one computer crash.

A Brief Introduction To Canadian Geese
August 29, 2010 | Leave a Comment
From the past few years, the number of Canadian Geese has increased to a great extent in the urban as well as the sub-urban areas of Canada. The Canadian Goose has a brown-colored back. The breast color changes from tan shade to a cream color. It has a black head and a black neck, and a strip of white color is present on the chin.
An interesting fact about the Canada goose is that just a decade or two after people intentionally re-introduced the very large Canada goose to various places they were soon considered pests.
There are at least about eleven subspecies of Canadian Geese that have been recorded. Several of them possess distinct features. In northern Canada, the size of the geese is comparatively smaller. In most of the western region, they seem to have a generally darker color.
In the past, migration to the south was common among the geese of Canada. Recently, migration to the north is more popular as a result of food-availability even during winter season and autumnal fall. A major change in agricultural patterns is a reason behind the change in the migration trend. Hunting threats and climatic variations are also responsible for this trend.
Generally at the end of the breeding season, the Canadian Geese move to the northern parts. A few of them unfortunately sometimes lose their nests. Such geese, along with those that do not breed proceed to the far north travelling nearly one thousand and five hundred kilometers. They move into the thick foliage for molting. By the end of summer, even those that had chosen to avoid winter-migration reach the north for molting.
Each male and female goose selects its mate in accordance to its own size. It is impressive to note that the Canadian Geese form a partnership for life. During the 1900s, the giant variant of the Canadian Geese reached extinction. As a result, they were bred in large numbers and introduced into many localities of the country. They became unexpectedly numerous and were included under the category of pests.
Primarily found in marshy land and on grassy areas or grain-cultivated fields near to water resources, the Canadian Geese like to live amidst the grass. This is because they can easily feed their little ones, simultaneously checking out for predatory animals. Hence, it is not surprising to find flocks of these birds in human-inhabited places like the airport, grassy lawns, parks and golf courses.
Over the seasons of spring and summer, Canadian Geese usually feed on grass, decaying cabbage leaves, eelgrass and marshy plants. In winter and autumn, lots of blueberries and other grains and seeds are available for their food. Two of their major subspecies have amazingly adapted themselves to their surroundings and thrive well.
The clutch size is 2 - 8 eggs which are 3.3 inches in length and 8.3 cm in width. The incubation period is 25 to 28 days while nestling time is 45 to 50 days. The creamy white egg cracks open to reveal hatchlings which have yellowish down and open eyes.

Some Interesting Facts About Archery
August 29, 2010 | Leave a Comment
People have been involved with archery for a minimum of four thousand years, but very nearly certainly for a lot longer than that. Sections of composite recurve bows have been found dating back to the second millennium BC, but the parts that were found were the non-wooden, composite parts, usually of horn.
The wooden parts ordinarily rotted away thousands of years previously, but a wooden longbow from the same era was found in Somerset. Most probably, people had been using all wooden, single section bows long before they started constructing complex composite recurve bows.
The skill of archery has always enthralled mankind and, in spite of the fact that guns have made archery obsolete, it still fascinates people today, although nowadays archery is practically exclusively used for sporting purposes. It is a thriving sport and hobby and is the national sport of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
If you are interested in taking up archery, you will first have to decide which type of bow you prefer. Among other types, there are the longbow, recurve bow, reflex and decurve bows, deflex bow, pyramid bow and crossbow.
To a certain degree, the arrows are not interchangeable either. For instance, a longbow can cast a three foot, heavy-gauge arrow, whereas a crossbow shoots a six inch bolt. The bows also had different uses although there was a certain degree of overlap.
For example, longbows were the heavy, rapid-firing armaments of their day, being able to fling a heavy, armour-piercing arrow hundreds of yards; whereas a short recurve bow was ideal for assault from horseback. Crossbows took less ability to use but were slower than a bow.
There are diverse kinds of arrow too. Historically, arrows were made of wood with a sharp metal tip, but these days arrows can be made of aluminium or carbon fibre. The arrowheads are different for different applications as well. A simple brass tip is sufficient for everyday shooting whereas a ferocious, slashing broadhead is used for killing.
The majority of people who take archery seriously use carbon fibre arrows these days which is the typical arrow shaft in use at the Olympic games. The flights are usually of bird feathers and are used to stabilize the arrow in flight to minimize wobble. Plastic flights are also to be had as they are less prone to damage.
The Welsh (and English) longbow was perhaps the most powerful hand bow widely used. These longbows were typically six feet or more in length and made of one section of seasoned yew (or other woods). The draw weight of a Welsh longbow at the time of Henry VIII was between 160 -180 lbf and that would shoot a heavy three ounce arrow up to about 280 yards.
An explanation of the damage that one of these arrows could inflict was given by Gerald of Wales in the 12th century:
“… in the war against the Welsh, one of the men of arms was struck by an arrow shot at him by a Welshman. It went right through his thigh, high up, where it was protected inside and outside the leg by his iron cuirasses, and then through the skirt of his leather tunic; next it penetrated that part of the saddle which is called the alva or seat; and finally it lodged in his horse, driving so deep that it killed the animal”.
It took years of practice to draw and shoot one of these longbows bows perfectly.
Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on various subjects, but is presently involved with archery recurve bows. If you would like to know more or for special offers, please go to our website at Kids Archery Set.
