Take It From A Former University Graduate: Study This Advice.

by Bobbi Jameritrus

So, somebody is leaving home to further their studies at some university. Going to a university is a huge step in a person’s life. There are so many unknown experiences they will have for the first time. It would be smart for them to take some advice from an experienced university graduate.

Try to finish as much study work as you can first thing in the morning every day. Chances are you are at your best mentally soon after you wake up in the morning. That is of course assuming you weren’t out screwing around the night before. Take advantage of the clear brain and see how much studying you can get done in the shortest amount of time. It will make most days go a lot better.

Avoid making the mistake of scheduling classes back to back. There are going to be plenty of times when you want to get stuff done right before the next class that you had forgotten about. You want the extra time. Also, you don’t want to be in a hurry getting from one class to the next.

Meet some friends in your classes right away. Introduce yourself to somebody sitting next to you in the room. See if you have anything in common. You want to have someone you can bounce ideas off of for class or just to ask questions if the need occurs.

You shouldn’t trust everyone you meet. Get a lockable box for your dorm room. You really want to have somewhere safe to keep personal materials. Otherwise, you are likely to eventually end up having something come up missing. Then you will be tempted to look for someone to blame. You’ll never know if it was your own fault or if somebody stole from you.

Your studies will take off fast. Take notes the very first day of class. You may expect the first day to be a breeze. It probably won’t be. Make sure you have your materials organized. There will be some things mentioned that you don’t want to forget.

Try to set aside specific times to get together with other students in each of your most difficult classes for a study group. Don’t go overboard. You don’t need a whole bunch of people. You only want a few. Too many more than that and your study group will turn into a party.

Focus on areas where you will be spending a lot of your time. Make your study area in your room as comfortable and as well organized as reasonable. It is extremely important to be well organized. When you are on stress overload because you have got too much work to do, it will be much more bearable if you’re well organized.
