Acoustic Guitar Reviews

Posted by Jay Tyler on 28 December 2008

Very important before buying a new acoustic guitar, be sure to check out some acoustic guitar reviews. Two kinds of reviews you’ll find are ones written by experts who sample and play a wide variety of guitars, and reviews written by ordinary people who just want to give you an opinion about how the guitar works, sounds and feels to them.

People who have several years of guitar experience are qualified to write expert guitar reviews. The should have several guitars from several manufacturers reviewed. Even though they will have personal preferences, they should be able to determine the positive and negative of any acoustic guitar. Any biases should be explained. You don’t need someone with a degree in music, just someone with adequate experience playing different acoustic guitars. Its best if someone explains why their opinion should be considered.

When you look for user reviews, you should locate web site containing a few reviews of each guitar written by a variety of musicians. Many music stores have web sites with user reviews. Every guitarist plays his or her own unique type of music at different kinds of venues with different arrangements of band members. A classical guitar player who plays at wedding receptions has different needs and preferences than a rock guitarist who performs in nightclubs. Be sure you find reviews from individuals who play the same style of music and who are at the same level of playing that you are or that your aspire to.

If you’re using an internet search engine to locate acoustic guitar reviews, you should know some useful shortcuts. For instance, try putting your key search phrase in quotation marks (like “acoustic guitar reviews”). On Yahoo alone, that will reduce your hits from 17,000,000 to a more manageable 6000 or so.

A helpful hint when searching for individual acoustic guitar reviews, may work like this. If you are looking for reviews on Martin DX1 and put just martindx1, without quotes, in Yahoo search you will find approximately 38,000 hits. But, when you put quotes next to “martin dx1″ there will be only approximately 10,000.

To narrow your search for specific acoustic guitar reviews down even more, try adding a plus (+) sign after the phrase and the word “review”. That will give you only the sites that contain that exact phrase on the website.

If you try something new by entering this- “martin dx1″ into your search bar, you’ll get upwards of 500 hits. To find something more specific, like the action on a particular guitar, you can add that to the query as long as you add a plus sign to it. Acoustic guitar reviews will be easier to find, which will make your decision easier if you take advantage of these two small search tips.

Some Easy Lead Guitar Riffs For You To Attempt

Posted by Joss Schuyler on 13 December 2008

In the beginning when you first start to learn how to play the guitar you may become frustrated. This is because you want to be able to play songs just like your favorite guitarist but are not able to. There are many songs which you would like to play and which prove difficult, but there are also plenty of easy lead guitar riffs that you could attempt instead.

If you really want to be able to play easy lead guitar riffs well you need to learn how to read guitar tabs. If you don’t have the ability to read guitar tabs then actually playing music on your guitar becomes more difficult. Once you have been able to master reading guitar tabs then you will find it so much easier to play the kinds of lead guitar riffs we mention in this article.

1. Smoke On The Water is not only one of the most popular guitar riffs for people who are just learning how to play the guitar, but is also one of the simplest.

In order to play this particular song you need to have both the D and G strings open. So what this means you haven’t actually placed any of your fingers on to the frets of the guitar. After playing this note now place your index finger on the D Strings third fret and your middle finger on the G strings third fret. Once in the right position you play these two strings together to form a note and after playing it you need to place your fingers on to the fifth frets of the D and G Strings. Then after playing these two together you open up the strings once more before repeating the above. When learning to play any lead guitar riffs you should never use a guitar pick but rather your index finger and thumb.

2. Hells Bells which was written by AC/DC as well as being one of the greatest rock anthems of all time is also one of the easiest songs that you as a guitarist can learn to play. Although be aware that you may find this song a little difficult to play initially because of the speed at which it should be played. Normally this easy lead guitar riff should be played at a speed (tempo) of 96 beats per minute and which is why you may find it so hard to play initially.

So if you really do want to learn how to play this riff well then you should start off playing at a much slower speed than it would normally be played. The best way to do this is get yourself a metronome and then use this to slow down the beats per minute at which you should be playing this particular lead guitar riff. Only when you start to feel more confident in your playing skills should you then begin to increase the speed at which you play it.

3. Another lead guitar riff that you could learn to play is Love Me Tender which really isn’t classed as a rock riff. But when you are first learning how to play the guitar this is a simple one for you to attempt. For you to be able to play this song you will only need to use your middle, index and ring fingers. However, don’t expect to actually be able to get your fingering position correct straight away it will take lots of practice before you find yourself playing the notes in this song the right way.

In this article we have looked at three easy lead guitar riffs that you should consider learning how to play when you first begin playing the guitar. If you really do want to improve the way that you play this instrument then you will need to spend lots of time practice these riffs.

A Review of 50Blues - 50 Blues Guitar Backing Tracks

Posted by John Rivers on 04 December 2008

I have been an aspiring blues musician for several years now. Actually let me rephrase that. I have been a frustrated aspiring blues musicians for several years. We all know that if you want to become really good at something then you need to practice and practice and more practice.

Playing blues solos on your own is no problem. I mean you can just pick up your guitar and go for it whenever the mood dictates. The problem is most musicians particularly blues enjoys the interaction with a blues band. Very few musicians have the luxury of having such a band to jam with on a consistent basis. This is where a discovery I made relating to a product that will give you the opportunity to practice whenever you want with a full backup. This comes from 50Blues. They provide the tracks for you to practice with.

What I Liked About It:
Not only do they give you 50 backing tracks they also give you the improvisation lessons to go with it. The other major issue is the author of all this material has very sound credentials. This happens to be Zack Roberts ,who is a Professional guitarist with many years experience. He is a well known instructor, and also happens to have his own professional recording studio. Needless to say with the type of expertise that Zack has it makes anything that he has to offer by way of advice or instruction valuable material.

The bonuses alone that are being offered with this package are sensational. There is very little doubt that anyone purchasing this package will not benefit a great deal from it. The very idea of being able to play the tracks when I had the time, and get the practice I was finally going to get, was a real inspiration to my getting this program.

What I didn’t like About It:
There was so much material in the advertisement, and what was being offered I was thinking that perhaps it was just a little too advanced for me. I mean all of the samples I was listening to, just sounded like it was a too high of a professional level. I mean here I am just an amateur that has a lot of dreams, like any musician. Then I finally realized that the samples I was listening to where from people that had already taken advantage of Zack’s offer. People like myself. I realized then that there really wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about what Zack had to offer.

Conclusion
My first inclination was thinking that I was probably going to have to do a lot of overtime at my job to pay for Zack’s program. When I got down to the price he was asking I figured there had to be a typing error. I had expect a price of at least $100 and above. After checking it out a lot closer I realized it was no mistake. Zack was letting this offer go at an amazing price, and I wasn’t going to miss out on it.

Posted by Joss Schuyler on 30 November 2008

For you to learn how to play lead guitar you need to know that it not only takes natural talent but you also need to understand the theory and technique with regard to playing the instrument. There are many people who already play the lead guitar and would like to play it even better. For some people this is easier said than done. Below we provide a few tips which can help improve your playing lead guitar in the future.

Tip 1 - Although you may think that learning the basics of playing a lead guitar isn’t important because it is boring, then think again. Certainly if you aren’t willing to spend time learning even the basics when playing lead guitar it can prove very difficult indeed.

Tip 2 - Although you would like to start playing the lead guitar stood up or jumping around, this really isn’t the best way to learn. You will find it a lot easier if you practice your playing when sat in a comfortable chair. This way you will find that you are more and so can retain things much more easily and also you won’t become so tired so quickly when you are practicing.

Tip 3 - You need to make sure that you discipline yourself to carry out practice when you should. Therefore if you decide that each day you are going to spend 45 minutes practicing then make sure that you keep to this and don’t slope off 10 or 20 minutes before you should.

Tip 4 - You should also learn alternate picking rather than just economy picking. If you don’t then when you are trying to learn how to play more complex techniques or faster pieces it will prove that little more difficult. Alternate picking is where you learn how to alternate your picking when playing the down and up strokes on the instrument. Over time you will learn to play these reflexively and then you will find that you can actually pick the strings a lot more quickly.

Tip 5 - You have to dedicate time to learning the various different techniques for playing lead guitar. So you need to spend time learning how to play bends, slides, vibratos, pull offs, hammer ons as well as the kinds of tricks that other lead guitarists use. Through learning these techniques you can make your lead guitar playing more colorful and so make it more expressive.

Tip 6 - To play certain lead guitar solos you will need to learn how to repeatedly play scales. The types of scales that are most commonly used by guitarists today to help them with their playing and which they learn are the Pentatonic and E Blues scales. If you can master these scales then you will find that they make a good framework for your playing and can help you to then start creating your own music.

Tip 7 - This final tip for playing lead guitar is of course for many the most important and is the one that says that you should practice, practice, and practice. The more time you spend on practicing a piece then you will find it much easier to remember and over time you will find them much easier to play. It is best when you start learning to play each piece you do so slowly at first and then build up the speed of playing them using a metronome.
